Opening of a Five-Day Training on Climate Change and Natural Resource Management in Southwest Somalia

A five-day training program officially commenced in Baidoa District, jointly organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Petroleum and Minerals and the Ministry of Environment & Climate Change of the Southwest State of Somalia.

The training, held under the theme:
1. Climate Change in Somalia
2. Natural Resources of Somalia – with a focus on the Southwest State,
aims to build technical knowledge and raise awareness among participants regarding the environmental challenges and economic opportunities related to Somalia’s natural resources.

The opening ceremony took place at Daarul Barakaad Conference Hall in Baidoa and brought together various stakeholders including government officials, technical experts, youth representatives, and civil society members.

The training is designed to:

  • Enhance understanding of climate-related risks affecting the region
  • Promote sustainable management and equitable use of natural resources
  • Strengthen the role of local institutions and communities in climate adaptation strategies

Over the course of the five days, participants will engage in lectures, group discussions, and practical sessions led by experts from relevant ministries and development partners.

This initiative reflects the commitment of the Southwest State to equipping its institutions and communities with the knowledge and tools needed to face the dual challenges of climate change and resource sustainability
