Conclusion of a Five-Day Training on Climate Change and Natural Resource Management

A five-day capacity-building training on Climate Change and the Natural Resources of Somalia successfully concluded today in Baidoa, the administrative capital of the Southwest State.

The training aimed to enhance participants’ understanding of climate change, its impacts on local communities, and the sustainable management of Somalia’s natural resources. It brought together representatives from government institutions, civil society, and educational centers.

The closing ceremony was officially presided over by the Deputy Minister of Petroleum and Minerals of the Southwest State, Hon. Omar Waye, who highlighted the importance of building local capacity to respond to the growing threats posed by climate change and environmental degradation.

Also present at the event were:

  • The Chairperson of Social Affairs, Baidoa District
  • Senior government officials and departmental directors
  • The Director of Daarul Barakaad Institute
  • Members of Parliament from the Southwest State of Somalia

In their closing remarks, speakers emphasized the significance of inter-institutional collaboration, community engagement, and evidence-based policymaking to address environmental challenges. The event concluded with a call to action for all stakeholders to take an active role in climate resilience and the sustainable use of natural resources.
