Expert Panel Discussion on Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation
A high-level scientific panel discussion titled “Adaptation and Mitigation for Climate Change” was successfully held today in Baidoa, bringing together key environmental experts, policymakers, academia, and youth representatives.
The session featured a distinguished panel of experts, including:
- Prof. Abduqadir Nur Abuu – Coordinator of the National Adaptation Plan (NAP) for the Southwest State of Somalia
- Sheikh Adan Sheikh Saciid – President of Ganane University
- Mr. Abshir Ali Hussein – Director of Health and Sanitation, Baidoa District
The panel was officially inaugurated by the Deputy Minister of Environment & Climate Change for the Southwest State, H.E. Eng. Ahmed Mohammed, who underscored the urgency of climate action and the need for integrated adaptation and mitigation strategies tailored to the Somali context.
The event was well-attended by:
- University students from institutions across Baidoa
- Civil society organizations
- Scholars, youth leaders, and professionals from various sectors
This platform facilitated rich dialogue on the climate challenges facing Somalia, particularly the Southwest State, and explored community-based and policy-level approaches to adaptation and mitigation. The engagement of youth and academic institutions was a key highlight, reinforcing the role of inclusive knowledge-sharing in building climate resilience.
