As part of a strategic initiative to combat environmental degradation and promote sustainability, a tree-planting campaign was successfully implemented in Shodog Primary and Secondary School , Hudur primary and secondary and Gediya School, located in Hudur District, the administrative capital of Bakool Region.
This initiative is part of a broader environmental restoration and awareness program aimed at addressing the severe impact of deforestation, improving local ecosystems, and contributing to climate resilience in the region. The project involved the planting of various native and drought-resistant tree species, selected for their adaptability to the local climate and their environmental benefits, such as soil stabilization, improved air quality, and provision of shade.
Beyond the ecological goals, this initiative also focused on community engagement and youth empowerment. Students and school staff were actively involved in the planting process, supported by environmental educators and local authorities. Through workshops and hands-on participation, students were educated about the importance of environmental stewardship, making them active stakeholders in the protection and regeneration of their environment.
By targeting schools, the program seeks to foster long-term environmental consciousness and encourage sustainable practices among the younger generation who are the custodians of the future. This is a pivotal step towards building a greener, healthier, and more resilient community in Hudur and the wider Bakool region.
