Baraawe District Officially Hosts World Environment Day Celebratio June 5, 2024

Baraawe, South West State of Somalia – June 5, 2024
Baraawe, the official capital of the South West State of Somalia, successfully hosted the annual World Environment Day celebration, observed globally on June 5th each year.

The event was well-organized and led by the Environmental Development Organization  Baraawe Branch, with a focus on raising public awareness about environmental protection and addressing the impacts of climate change.

Activities Conducted During the Event:

  • A large-scale tree planting campaign was carried out at the Ministry of Education compound in Baraawe.
  • Key roads connecting various neighborhoods in the district were also lined with newly planted trees, as part of ongoing efforts to combat deforestation and promote urban greenery.
  • Several schools across the district were engaged in tree planting and general clean-up activities, encouraging student participation in environmental conservation.

Purpose of the Celebration:

This year’s celebration aimed to:

  • Promote environmental protection to ensure clean, healthy, and sustainable communities.
  • Increase community involvement, especially among youth and students, in environmental activities.

Raise awareness about the dangers of deforestation and pollution, and foster a culture of environmental responsibility.
