Day Two: Awareness and Training on Livestock Care Campaign

On the second day of our animal welfare awareness and training campaign, key activities were conducted in Buule Seefle, a village located near Baidoa, as well as at the Baidoa livestock market. These efforts form part of our broader initiative aimed at strengthening community understanding and implementation of humane livestock care practices.

The campaign received a warm reception from the local community, who described the intervention as timely and essential. Community members emphasized the urgent need to educate the public on animal welfare issues, highlighting that animal mistreatment remains a serious concern in rural and urban settings alike.

A particular concern raised by participants was the Eid al-Adha period, during which poor animal handling and insufficient sanitation often lead to environmental contamination and the spread of disease in and around the city. Participants expressed that improving public awareness during such high-risk periods is critical for both animal health and public hygiene.

Community representatives from various backgrounds called for the expansion of the campaign to reach more remote areas and livestock hubs. They recommended sustained engagement and education efforts to instill a culture of compassionate animal care and environmental responsibility.

We extend our sincere gratitude to the Ministry of Livestock, Forestry, and Range of Southwest State, GREDO Somalia, and the Baidoa District Local Administration for their unwavering support and collaboration, which have been instrumental in the success of this ongoing campaign.
