Tree Planting Initiative to Enhance Climate Change Resilience and Environmental Sustainability, and Handover of Environmental Protection Equipment in Goof Gaduud Buurey in Goof Gadud Burey

January 7, 2026

In line with ongoing efforts to mitigate the impacts of climate change in Somalia and to enhance community resilience and adaptation, a tree-planting initiative was successfully conducted today in Goof Gaduud Buurey District. As part of this initiative, trees and essential planting equipment were formally handed over to the District Chairman.

The handed-over equipment included agricultural and planting tools as well as protective working gear used during tree planting activities, ensuring the sustainability and continuity of environmental conservation efforts at the district level.

The trees were planted in several strategic public service locations, including the District Administration Headquarters, SYEDO Health Center, and other community-serving facilities. The initiative aims to promote environmental sustainability by enhancing green spaces, strengthening environmental protection, and contributing to the reduction of climate-related challenges such as extreme heat, drought, and land degradation.

Additionally, the activity seeks to improve the aesthetic value of public institutions, enhance air quality, reduce dust pollution, and foster a healthier and more conducive environment for service delivery—particularly in health facilities.

We extend our sincere gratitude to the Goof Gaduud Buurey District Administration for their warm reception, strong leadership, and full cooperation throughout the implementation of this activity. Special appreciation is also extended to Tiirow Hospital for its generous contribution of the trees planted, reflecting a strong spirit of partnership and a shared commitment to environmental conservation and public health.

This initiative stands as a positive example of effective collaboration between local authorities, health institutions, and the community, contributing to a greener, healthier, and more climate-resilient future for the district.t.
