Climate Change Awareness Session for Displaced Communities in Southwest State

Today, November 23, 2024, we successfully conducted an impactful awareness session for individuals displaced by the ongoing challenges of climate change in Southwest State. The session was organized with the generous support of GREDO Somalia under the #DANIDA-funded project and focused on educating communities, encouraging dialogue, and launching practical environmental action.

The primary objective of the session was to raise awareness of the direct and indirect effects of climate change particularly on vulnerable, displaced populations and to promote tree planting as a simple yet powerful solution to mitigate environmental degradation.

Key Outcomes of the Session:

Enhanced Awareness: Displaced individuals gained deeper understanding of how climate change affects their livelihoods, health, and long-term stability.

Community Engagement: Participants actively contributed to discussions on sustainable and locally driven solutions, fostering a sense of ownership and empowerment.

Action-Oriented Impact: The session marked the official launch of a community-based tree-planting campaign aimed at supporting environmental restoration and climate resilience. This event represents a critical step toward strengthening climate adaptation at the grassroots level, promoting green recovery among displaced populations, and reinforcing the role of environmental education in building resilient communities
