Tree Planting Campaign at Shata gadud international airport

Location: Shaato Gaduud International Airport, Baidoa.

As part of the ongoing efforts to mitigate the impacts of climate change in Somalia, a tree planting campaign was successfully carried out today at Shaato Gaduud International Airport in Baidoa. The initiative was led by DEDO Baidoa in collaboration with key government and institutional stakeholders.

This environmentally focused activity aimed to restore green cover, enhance local biodiversity, and raise public awareness about the importance of environmental conservation.

We were honored by the presence and participation of several high-level dignitaries, including:

  • Mr. Abdikarim Moallim Mohamud Ahmed, President of SIMAD University, who led the delegation from the university.
  • Hon. Abdi Fatah Ali Yusuf, Minister of Information and Tourism, South West State.
  • Hon. Dr. Mohamed Ibrahim Nur, Minister of Rural Development and Drought Resilience, South West State.
  • Hon. Mohamed Isack Ibrahim (Master Bay), Minister of Petroleum and Minerals, South West State.
  • Mr. Mustaf Adaf, Director General, Ministry of Interior, South West State.
  • Dr. Ibrahim Soomow, Director General, Ministry of Health, South West State.

The campaign marks a significant step in local climate action, demonstrating the shared commitment of government institutions, academia, and civil society in addressing the environmental challenges facing our region.

By coming together for this cause, we reaffirm our collective responsibility to safeguard the environment and build a sustainable future for generations to come.
